Gin-I to Battle at World Domination Event

August 18, 2015

Many aren’t aware that one of the roots of hip hop is battling. We not talking memes and 14 characters here, we talking MC to MC, eye to eye, a bloodsport of lyrics and arsenal of punchlines.

One such initiative is Scrambles for Money. One of the biggest and highly followed battle arenas in Africa, amassing over 500 000 YouTube views, its only right that one of the local participants gets to represent South Africa at a world stage.

Gin-I from Braamfontein has been selected to participate in the World Domination event hosted by King of the Dot on the 21st of August in Toronto.

KOTD has come a long way since hosting its first event in an alley behind Toronto’s Eaton Centre in 2008.
Seven years and 100 million YouTube views later, the Toronto-based league is now a leader in a vibrant scene
that has taken off all over the world. This August marks the fifth edition of the “World Domination” series,
which features three days of clashes between some of the globe’s top battle emcees.

Of the 19 battles at the event, there are four massive headliners. The first pits KOTD champion Pat Stay
against challenger Illmaculate. Pat Stay was long considered Canada’s best battler before he won the title in
2014, and his three defences have only strengthened that reputation. But seasoned veteran Illmaculate could
be the toughest challenge yet for the Nova Scotian giant.

All eyes will be on New York battle legend Iron Solomon on Saturday as he returns to the ring for the first
time since 2012, putting his legacy up against Daylyt, the most unpredictable and controversial emcee in the
game right now.

Los Angeles battle superstar Dizaster also makes his return to Toronto in Friday’s main event against the
hugely popular Dumbfoundead, whose previous KOTD battle from 2015 has already become the most-viewed
battle rap YouTube release this year.

The final main event is a rematch of the most-viewed English-language battle ever, between Arsonal and
Shotty Horroh. The original video has amassed more than seven million views since 2012.

But the week kicks off at the New Era store (202 Queen St. W) on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 11:00 a.m. It will
launch the release of a red KOTD hat that will be limited to 72 snapbacks and 72 fullbacks. KOTD battlers
and personalities will be in the building to greet fans and sign autographs.

Thursday will also feature a press conference where the emcees will get a chance to face off before their battles.
These always provide lots of firework and shouldn’t be missed.

Stick around on Sunday night for a celebration to mark the end of WD5 and to celebrate seven years of
KOTD. Previous guests at events have included Drake, Deadmau5, Method Man, Raekwon, Maestro Fresh
Wes and more. You never know who will be in the building.

Event tickets are available at KOTDStore.com or get the live pay-per-view at KOTDTV.com.
