This past Saturday the 25th May saw one of Cape Town’s trendiest hangouts being transformed into an ICE music and Hip Hop village, as Buiten Street and its venues became the temporary home for the first of Castle Lite’s Extra Cold Live concerts.
This first-of-its-kind campaign sent Mzansi into a frenzy when fans from Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg were given the power to create their own concert line-up of 6 acts selected from 25 of SA’s leading musicians. Cape Town’s chosen line-up and festivities certainly didn’t disappoint, as the urban street culture hub offered guests non-stop entertainment including break dancers, food and clothing stores. South African graffiti legend Falko transformed his ‘canvas’ into a remarkable piece of art, whilst ice sculptors kept guests amazed with their precision skills. Live performances from Hip Hop ciphers, namely rap heavy weights Jake baker, Zebulon and Keeno gathered crowds and built momentum towards the main line-up of the day.
Hip Hop’s ‘it kid’ AKA locked it down as MC, and kept guests including Loyiso Gola, Expresso’s Danine Naidoo, Head Honcho’s Nick Kaoma, Goodhope FM’s Ayanda Tini and many more thoroughly entertained. The jam packed line-up chosen by the city of Cape Town was a true musical feast, including unforgettable performances from DJ Wags, Shugasmakx, DJ Ready D, Teargas, F.Eu DJ’s, the MC himself AKA, and Cape Town’s very own Driemanskap.
“This was the first of our trilogy of ICE experiences showcasing the best of South African music. Cape Town is a city renowned for its’ artistic culture and today was testament to that. We look forward to the next two (2) concerts, and if today is anything to go by, you don’t want to miss out on the upcoming ones in Durban and Johannesburg!” remarked Andrea Quaye, General Manager for Castle Lite.
